Engraving Cork with the FABOOL Laser Mini

Today, we take a quick look at what the FABOOL Laser Mini can do on cork. We’ve prepared three cork coasters and three different Independence Day themed data files to engrave them with. So, without further ado, let’s look at the results.

Positioning and Laser Parameters

Positioning circular items like these is really simple.
First, we measured the diameter of the coaster.

Next, we added in a circle from within the SmartDIYs Creator software and enlarged it to match the proportions of the coaster we measured.

Then, we took a piece of cardboard and etched the circle onto it and checked to ensure it was the same size as the coaster.

Finally, we imported the data we wanted to engrave into the software and placed it within the circle exactly as we wanted it show up on the actual coaster and began processing.

All images were raster files, with the same speed and powers settings of the FABOOL Laser Mini 3.5W. We went for a dark, clean etch for these.

Here are the results:

Speed: 4000
Power: 90
Passes: 1
Time: 17 min

Speed: 4000
Power: 90
Passes: 1
Time: 15 min

Speed: 4000
Power: 90
Passes: 1
Time: 13 min

Note: The Statue of Liberty engraving is lighter than the fireworks and flag as the original data used for it had a lighter color gradient as compared to the others (light gray instead of black). In these cases, the engraving can usually be made darker by simply adjusting the speed and power (lower speed, higher power) to your liking.

That’s it! Short, sweet, and simple.
