Ornament Corner

There’s a chill in the air, and Christmas is almost here! You probably already know that you can use your Etcher Laser to personalize your gifts, but how can it help you decorate for this time of year? For this blog, we focused on different ways to make ornaments to help you trim the tree!

Craft stores usually have plenty of wooden shapes for etching, and it should be easy to find Christmas-themed ornaments at this time of year that already have a lot of work done. We picked this one up at Michaels that was already cut and painted. We created the text in Adobe Illustrator, then saved it as a JPEG. After that, all we had to do was position it on the tree and let the Etcher Laser work!

Craft stores may have plenty of options, but with the Etcher Laser, you’re not limited by their availability; you can make whatever shapes you can come up with! For this ornament, we created a vector image in Adobe Illustrator. We then used the Etcher Laser to cut it out of 3 mm wood. Once that was done, we painted it white and used Mod Podge to attach the glitter (a lot of glitter), and that was that!

Have you checked out SmartDIYs Creator’s catalog? We have six Christmas shapes already ready for you to use! To turn them into ornaments, we simply cut them out of the same 3mm wood as above, then painted them. Some we glued ornament hangers to, but you can also cut a hole in any shape by adding the circle also found in the catalog!

White Felt:
Speed: 100

Note: White material (including felt) does not absorb the laser as well as regular material. For this reason, you’ll probably need more power in some way; as you can see above, for our white felt, we needed to slow the speed and cut more than one time.

Want truly custom ornaments? Let your kids join the fun! With the Etcher Laser, it’s easy to make gingerbread people for children to decorate! First, cut out the gingerbread men using felt. Then, using whatever colors and shapes you want, create accents for the kids to add! Use bows, mouths, buttons, anything! We were able to fit in multiple pieces of our felt at once, so we could put in many accents to cut at the same time!

You can also throw in markers, paint, glitter, and whatever crafts they like to use! If you’re good at sewing, you could even turn the ginger-people into stuffed toys!

Once they’ve finished (or you’ve finished helping with the glue), display them however you would like! To turn them into ornaments, simply glue on ornament hangers to the back!

No matter what you’re doing this holiday season, it’s easy to bring in a little creativity using your Etcher Laser!
